Artist Statement
After studying art and photography in college, I have continued
to look for new ways to express my ideas and emotions. I am
drawn to techniques that create a nostalgic, timeless feeling
such as Polaroid transfers, hand colored black and white
photos and mixed media collage. My latest work involves
using vintage photographs, books, ephemera and found
objects combined with contemporary materials to create layers
with texture and depth. I sometimes use familiar objects such
as wooden drawers, old books and boxes as a backdrop for
the collages. I also chose familiar imagery that everyone can
relate to but can also have different meanings. By focusing on
timeless personal and universal themes like education, dreams,
work and home life, memories and health, I allow the viewer to
look beyond the surface and explore their own experiences with
the help of the visual effects of images, objects and text.
